Gentenaar
BookletI designed a booklet on the Dutch artist Peter Gentenaar, taking inspiration from his hanging abstract paper sculptures using type and illustration.
For my research I investigated Peter Gentenaar and his fellow artist and wife Patricia Torley’s portfolios, blog sites, and various books they’ve written together. I then organized my booklet into three sections: Paper Arts, Fiber Collaborations, and Book Publications.

Process
I chose to open the booklet with a quote by Peter Gentenaar to highlight the importance of his work being about the paper itself.
Learning about the material and nuances that go into handmade paper gave me an appreciation for the art that I translated into a small step-by-step guide on each spread.
Some earlier iterations were focused on the physical distortion and deformation of type in space. Ultimately, I focused on the quiet beauty of the type itself when hanging.
